CCSC Board Hears Report On Fifth Grade Class Trip To Nation’s Capital

Athletic Handbooks For 2011-12 School Year Are Approved

Milner, the board voted unanimously to approve claims in the amount of $512,956.36.

Following the approval of claims the board moved on to the second reading of policy 5530.01, concerning drug testing. According to Dr. Milner, this policy simply now allows the corporation to use oral swabs and updates the administrative guidelines. The policy received board approval.

Next on the agenda, the board heard from the building principals regarding April student of the month selections.

For Cloverdale Elementary, third grader Devin Cashion was chosen for this honor. Devin is the son of Jamie and Timothy Cashion. A student in Mrs. Puckett’s class, Devin lists his favorite subject as math. Devin is also very athletic, competing in football, baseball and basketball.

Mrs. Puckett said, “Devin is an extremely hard worker. He strives to do his best and always gives 110 percent. Devin attends school every day and serves as a great role model in our classroom. Devin is always willing to help others in our room and be a great friend to all. I am extremely proud of Devin and the effort he puts forth on a daily basis to better himself and others.”

CMS fifth grader Aaron Gordon was chosen as student of the month at the middle school. The son of Laura and Keith Gordon, Aaron lists his favorite teacher as Mr. Frye and would like to be a biologist in the future.

Mrs. Moore said, “Aaron is a wonderful young man who is very eager to help and volunteer. Aaron is thoughtful and caring towards others and a pleasure to have in class.”

Junior Chelsea Hughes was chosen as student of the month at CHS. She is the daughter of jarrad and Robyn Hughes and lists her favorite subject as physics. Chelsea’s future plans include attending college and majoring in physical therapy.

Mrs. Helterbrand said, “Chelsea is a wonderful person to have at Cloverdale High School. She is very dependable and reliable. She is always happy to help, very hard working, willing to give up her time and does everything with a smile. I truly enjoy having her around.”

Following the student of the month presentations, the board heard from Dr. Milner regarding the Cloverdale FFA Livestock Judging Teams. Dr. Milner recognized not only the Livestock Juding Team, but all of the extra-curricular teams and groups for their hard work.

Next came a report and brief PowerPoint presentation from Mr. Savini regarding the recent fifth grade trip to Washington, D.C. Also speaking was fifth grade student Taylor Goss who described her experience traveling to Washington, D.C. and her favorite part of the trip – visiting the White House.

Under new business, the board voted to approve 2011-2012 student athletic handbooks, summer athletic program requests, tentative summer school programs, facility use requests, professional leave requests and field trip requests.

In the final act of the night, the board voted on personnel matters, approving the following:

Members of the school board include Pamelia Hepfer, Linda Mann, Donna Fidler, Dave Brinkman, Tony Hacker, Bobbi Nees and James Sharp.

The Cloverdale School Board will meet again on Monday, May 9, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Arthur L. Johnson Administration Center, located on East Logan Street in Cloverdale.
