James W. Hipps, 90

James W. Hipps, 90, Cloverdale, passed away on May 9, 2011 at The Waters of Greencastle. He was born on April 10, 1921 in Morganton, North Carolina and was the son of the late George Madison and Emma (Branch) Hipps.

He was married to Mildred L. Nees Hipps on September 8, 1944 and she preceded him in death on April 10, 2007. He was a farmer and a retired mechanic for Lone Star Cement in Greencastle.

He was a member of the Cloverdale Church of The Nazarene and had participated in the Cloverdale Main Street Farmers Market for several years. He was a veteran of WW II having served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his children, Mary Ann Barrett and husband, Wendall, Indianapolis, Sharon Freeman and husband, Ronald A., Cloverdale, RobertJames Hipps and wife, Barbara, Platte City, Missouri and George Hipps and wife, Joyce, Quincy; his sister, Maddie Edwards and husband, Grady, Shelby, South Carolina; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, May 13, 2011 at 1:30 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Rev. Ross Kirkman officiating.

Interment will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by several sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
