For some, it’s his contagious smile, for others his bright blue eyes…but one thing stands out above the rest.

Zion is the son of Paul and Chelsea Hoskins and brother to Zoe. He is three years old and resides with his family in Greencastle.

A benefit horse show is being held at the Putnam Country Fairgrounds in Greencastle on Sunday, October 23rd from 9am until 10pm.

Most would view being confined to a wheelchair a disability, but for Zion, his wheelchair is the independence he thrives on. His drive to run free warms your heart and puts a smile on the faces of all those around him. Zion was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type II in May of 2010. SMA is a genetic disease that affects approximately 1 in 6,000 babies, and affects the body’s ability to maintain muscle mass due to a lack of motor neurons. SMA has taken Zion’s ability to walk, and has forced him to battle several other issues regarding his health. Currently Zion’s biggest battle is fighting breathing issues brought about by weakened muscles in his chest and spine, requiring a daily regimen of treatments and a back brace to help align his spine.

Through the generosity of family and the community, Zion’s family has been able to provide him a manual and power chair, various pieces of medical equipment, and a ramp on their home making their house more accessible for Zion.

Now the family faces the need for wheelchair accessibility in their van to allow Zion to be independent outside their home.

T-shirts and bracelets will be sold for Zion the day of the show. We are asking for sponsors and donations to help make this benefit a success. Donations can be made the day of the show. If anyone wants to sponsor the show, we will hang their banner, announce their name, and put their name on the back of the flyers. Sponsors please contact John at 765-720-0701.

Come to the Putnam County Fairgrounds, October 23rd for a great time and to help raise money for Zion.
