CHS Wrestlers Max Secrest, Eldin Hesselgrave Are County Champs

Cloverdale High School played host to the Putnam County Wrestling Tournament this past Thursday evening, with the host Clovers coming away with two individual county titles.

In the opening round of the competition, the Greencastle Tiger Cubs battled the North Putnam Cougars, while the Clovers took on the South Putnam Eagles. Greencastle was a 61-16 winner, while the Eagles defeated Cloverdale, 54-16.

The Cougars and Clovers met in the second round, as well as the Tiger Cubs and Eagles. North Putnam topped Cloverdale, 36-34, while Greencastle won, 38-31.

South Putnam defeated North Putnam in the final round, 42-22, and Greencastle won over Cloverdale, 59-24.

Going 3-0 and winning the team championship was Greencastle. South Putnam finished second with a 2-1 record, while North Putnam was 1-2, and the Clovers were 0-3 as a team.

Individually, the Clovers had two wrestlers go 3-0 throughout the tourna- ment. Max Secrest competed in the 126-pound weight class and came away with the county title. Eldin Hesselgrave also won the county title in the 138-pound weight class.

The Clovers will next compete in the Ben Davis Super 16 on Thursday, December 29 beginning at 9:15 a.m.
