$15,000 Challenge Grant Received By Cloverdale Dollars for Scholars

(Courtesy Photo) The Putnam County Community Foundation recently awarded the Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars with a $15,000 matching grant to build its endowment by $45,000. In addition to the matching grant from the community foundation, a group of anonymous local donors will also match contributions, meaning that between November 1, 2011 and December 31, 2012, every dollar donated will be matched dollar for dollar up to a cumulative dollar amount of $45,000.

A Phone-A-Thon is being planned to raise the public portion of this grant. Students from Cloverdale High School, under the supervision of Dollars for Scholars board members and the school administration, will be calling parents of both current students and graduates as well as local residents. The Phone-AThon will take place on Saturday, February 11 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday, Feb- ruary 12 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. If you wish to receive a call or make a donation, please send an email to CloverdaleDollarsforScholars@gmail.com with your name and phone number, or call 765-795-5711 ext 1151 and leave a message with your name and phone number.

Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars is a volunteer group established in 1994 with a $1,000 donation and a goal to raise scholarship money for Cloverdale High School graduates. The first scholarship was awarded in 1995. Since then, Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars has awarded $206,000 in scholarships to 280 deserving students from CHS. Any student who attends a two- or fouryear college or technical school is eligible. Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars is an all-volunteer organization which operates with no paid staff. They are a chapter of the Indiana Dollars for Scholars and the national organization Scholarship America. These organizations provide students and parents with opportunities for additional scholarship monies from participating colleges and universities.

Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars endowment and having gifts matched may send contributions to the Putnam County Community Foundation c/o Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars Fund, 2 South Jackson Street, Greencastle, IN 46135. Gifts other than cash, including irrevocable planned gifts, will also be matched by the Community Foundation. Call for more information.
