Cloverdale Students Showcase Their Musical Talents During Competitions

(Photo by Donna Hardy) Instrumental musicians at Cloverdale High School and Cloverdale Middle School have recently been hard at work preparing for competitions that showcase their many various talents.

Students participate in a variety of activities, including the Indiana State School Music Association Solo and Ensemble competitions, Pep Band, Jazz Band, the Independent Winter Drumline, and the middle school ISSMA Organizational contest.

The Solo and Emsemble contest was recently held at Terre Haute North High School, with more than 60 students from the middle school and high school participating. Of those competing, there were 34 gold medals and 21 silver medals earned.

Those qualifying for the State ISSMA contest include Taulbee Jackson (tenor sax solo); Jacob Williams (alto sax solo); Robert Henline (bari sax solo); Hannah Ramey (clarinet solo); Miranda Tate, Angela Manning, and Zach Hall (percussion trio); Jackson, Williams, and Kyle Mannion (sax trio); and Jackson, Williams, Mannion, Henline, Rae McFadden, and Hanna Mann (saxophone sextet).

The Cloverdale Winter Drumline is preparing for their upcoming competitions and recently entertained the crowd at a Cloverdale basketball game with this season’s performance. Student musicians at CMS include: Cassie McMullin, Abbie Speas, Angela Pieper; Hanna Monnett, Chloe Mannan, Stevens, Fulkerson, Samantha Woods, Noah Cox, Anna Cole, Sarah Neidlinger, Sadie McKinney, Tanner White, Nick Zimmerman, Brandon Shoopmon, Evan Monnett, and Matt McFadden.

High school musicians include: Angela Manning, Miranda Tate, Hannah Ramey, Jacob Williams, Taulbee Jackson, Ethan Williamson, Zach Hall, Pretty Barabongafue, Mitchell Stacey, Ethan Maners, Bailey Stevens, Bridget Jackson, Rae McFadden, Kyle Manion, and Hannah Mann.

The Cloverdale Pep Band has performed throughout the school year during football and basketball games. Cloverdale band director Bill Cole noted that they have received many positive comments on their performances throughout the basketball season and extended best wished to the boys’ basketball team as they head into the post-season.

Pep band members include: Dustin Boothby, Eddie Brown, Brady Bundy, Pretty Buranabunvong, Tyler Carrell, Zach Cleverly, Shawn collett, Jordan Garrett, Zach Hall, Robert Henline, Joe Hyland, Bridget Jackson, Taulbee Jackson, Mariah Jacobson, Brad Johnson, Joe, Littiken, Ethan Maners, Kyle Manion, Angelica Manning, Hannah Mann, Rae Md- Fadden, Kiersten Mundy, Charlotte Muns, Leif Parker, Hannah Ramey, Alexis Rayl, Austin Rayl, Phoenix Sims, Anna Spencer, Robert St John, Mitchell Stacy, Bailee Stevens, Miranda Tate, Ben Tingle, Ethan Williamson, Jacob Williams, and Krystyna Woods.

Cloverdale’s Jazz Combo has been working hard to prepare for their upcoming competition at the ISSMA Jazz Festival, scheduled for Friday, March 2 at Terre Haute South.

Jazz members are: Robert Henline, Taulbee Jackson, Rae McFadden, Kyle Manion, Jacob Williams, Kristina Woods, Hannah Ramey, Zach Hall, Ethan Williamson, Joe Litteken, Leif Parker, Tyler Carrell, Miranda Tate, and Alexis Rayl.

(Photo by Donna Hardy) Finally, the Cloverdale Winter Drumline recently performed during halftime of the boys’ basketball game. They demonstrated their strong skills, earning loud applause from both the Cloverdale and visiting sides of the gymnasium.

Cole explained that the group is performing an original composition by instructor Rusty Bottomley. There are 21 Cloverdale students and eight Monrovia students participating in the group.

Coming up for the Drumline are performances at Mt Vernon/Fortville on Saturday, March 10 and Avon on Saturday, March 17. The state finals will be Saturday, March 24 at Ben Davis.
