Tickets Now On Sale For Annual Ag Day Banquet At Fairgrounds

Staff Report

Agriculture is about growing a crop, raising an animal, and providing for one’s family and the world. The type of crop and animal that is produced varies depending upon the soil, the climate, the livestock available, and numerous other factors that we can’t control. Therefore, it is no surprise that agriculture and one’s diet varies from country to country.

This year, at the Owen County Ag Day Dinner, organizers will be taking a look at some of these differences through an informative and interactive presentation titled, “Hungry Planet: What The World Eats” by Jenna Smith, Purdue Extension Educator. This presentation is based on the Hungry Planet book by photographer, Peter Menzel, and authorjournalist, Faith D’Alusio. Hungry Planet, the book, is the 2006 James Beard Award winner for writing on food. In this presentation, you will see what a family eats in a given week and think about why that family chooses those food items.

The banquet to celebrate Owen County agriculture will be held on Tuesday, March 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Owen County Fairgrounds. In addition to the presentation on Hungry Planet by Jenna Smith, there will also be booths featuring local agricultural businesses and organizations on hand during the event.

Tickets for the dinner are available at the Purdue Extension Office (829-5020), located on South Washington Street in Spencer, or through the Owen County SWCD Office (829-2605), located off of State Road 46E. Tickets are $10 per person and must be purchased by Thursday, March 22.
