Casting Kids Contest To Be Held June 23rd

The Spencer Exchange Club, in conjunction with the Sweet Owen Bassmasters Club, will again be sponsoring a Casting Kids contest on Saturday, June 23rd at the Owen County Fairgrounds on South East Street in Spencer.

The contest is designed to allow youngsters to test their basic fishing skills, have fun and provide them with an activity they can enjoy for a lifetime. Open to young people in two age groups, 7-10 and 11-14, the goals of this competition are to involve America’s youth in fishing, to foster an appreciation and concern for our great outdoors and to make certain every child has fun while learning about fishing. The contest involves casting, pitching and flipping – the three basic fishing techniques – to a target. Prizes will be awarded.

The Sweet Owen Bassmasters will provide all rods and reels and instructors will be on site to help your child. There is no entry fee and registration will begin at 8:45 on Saturday morning June 23rd with the competition to begin at 9:00. During the competition there will be a drawing for rods and reels, tackle boxes and other prizes donated by the Exchange Club and the Sweet Owen Bassmasters.. There will also be a presentation by local fishing enthusiasts and an Indiana DNR Conservation officer. A parent or guardian must accompany the child. Persons with questions may contact John Fuhs after 6:00 p.m. at 829- 2133.
