The Cloverdale School Board recently came together for their regularly scheduled August 2012 meeting.

After the approval of routine matters, including July 9th meeting minutes and claims and financial reports, the board moved on to communications.

The first item on the agenda was a building project update from Dan Sulkoske, owner and construction project delivery expert with Kramer Companies. The work in question includes new roofing and fascia. Board members received a bid summary from Sulkoske, who advised the board to accept a bid from CE Reed totaling $318,000 for the elementary school construction, along with a $435,000 base bid from Danco for high school construction. There were also alternates approved at a total of $160,000. The bids were approved and work is slated to begin as soon as possible. Work should be finished by December 14, 2012.

The board next heard from CCS Superintendent Dr. Carrie Milner regarding the preliminary student numbers. As of the first day of school on Monday, the elementary enrollment was 384, the middle school enrollment was 434, and the high school enrollment was 414 at the high school.

Kathleen Glaser, CCSC Guidance Counselor and test coordinator later addressed the board, giving an in-depth review of test results. Those results will be featured in a later edition of the Spencer Evening World.

Varsity football coach John Butler also came before the board, giving an update on the football practice field. After thorough review, and an attempt to draw up plans that placed the field in three different orientations on the land, it was decided that not enough land was present, in fact, the land currently available falls just a few feet short. The project has been put on hold at this point.

The board again heard from Dr. Milner, who handed out certificates to all three school buildings for earning Advanced Ed accreditation. Cloverdale Community Schools as a whole received this accreditation, as well as each individual building.

Under new business, the board moved to approve for publication the proposed 2013 budgets, capital projects plan and school bus replacement plan. Also approved was the use of prime time instructional assistants, the Five-Star Technology contract and cash transfer requests.
