Putnam Center For Women’s Ministries Director Retires After 12 Years Of Service

Mary Lou Sipe Mary Lou Sipe On Sunday, August 26, 2012, after retiring with 12 years of service to the Putnam County Center for Women’s Ministries in Cloverdale, Mary Lou Sipe was presented a garden bench inscribed with the verse from Matthew 25:21, “Well done thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy LORD.” The presentation was made in grateful recognition of her dedication and passion for serving the Putnam County Center for Women’s Ministries since the Center’s inception in 2000. Mary Lou directed specially trained volunteers while serving the needs of numerous women during her tenure at the Center, initially while still working at Eli Lilly and continuing after her retirement. Life began in a garden and Mary Lou Sipe is looking forward to enjoying her new bench in her garden since her retirement.

The Center for Women’s Ministries, an International non-profit 501 © 3 organization began in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1989. The Cloverdale Center for Women’s Ministries began in 2000 and has grown to over 25 specially trained volunteers and has helped develop two other centers, a satellite Center in Greencastle and a Center in Danville. The local Center is located at 404 N. Main and houses a space for Bible study, support groups and offers free peer-counseling by Center volunteers who have undergone a 14 week training series. Counseling is by appointment and volunteers are always eager to help the community find the necessary resources they need to address their situation.

The Center is supported through donations and some fundraising events. One way is by hosting yard sales supported through the generous donations of Putnam County residents. We are not able to accept heavy items, such as appliances and large televisions, but we do accept clothing and household goods. Donations and support on a monthly or one time basis are always welcome to continue providing outreach to the community.
