Jerry Ray Saucerman, 75

Jerry Ray Saucerman, 75, Eminence, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville.

He was born on Monday, February 15, 1937 in Sullivan, Indiana, to the late K. Ray and Eva P. (Thrasher) Saucerman.

Jerry was a 1955 graduate of Carlisle High School in Carlisle, Indiana, and served in the United States Army. He retired in April 1992 from the Allison Division of General Motors, Plant 5, in Indianapolis as a machinist.

He enjoyed traveling and wandering Indiana, and he was a state park enthusiast. He spent time gardening and canning; he enjoyed spending time with his dogs and caring for the livestock.

Jerry hosted an annual “Father’s Day Bean Dinner” for 41 years for family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Ann (McCarter) Saucerman, whom he married on August 31, 1957; sons, Jerry Ronald Saucerman and wife, Terry, James Richard Saucerman and wife, Karen, John Robert Saucerman, Jason Roy Saucerman, Jeffrey Russell Saucerman and wife, Mendy, all of Eminence, Joseph Ray Saucerman, of Terre Haute and Justin Ross Saucerman and wife, Jessica, of Cloverdale; daughters, Jane Graham and husband, Randy, of Mooresville, June Ann Ploughe, of Eminence, Janet Marie Jeffries and husband, Timothy, of Martinsville, and Mary Jean Winters and husband, Bradley, of Clayton; brother, Marion Wayne Saucerman, of Monrovia; 26 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Dean, Robert, Lewis and Billy Joe Saucerman; sister, Lorene Flath; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Costin Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Steve Ranson officiating.

Burial with military honors was at the Shumaker Cemetery, Saucerman Family Plot, in Eminence, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made to the Jerry Ray Saucerman Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of Morgan County, 56 North Main Street, Martinsville, Indiana, 46151.
