( Courtesy Photo) Cloverdale High School sophomore Alexis Branneman is spearheading a project to make sure everyone can go to the prom all dressed up at a reasonable price. She is collecting formal dresses, shoes, jewelry and accessories to offer at significantly reduced prices to girls facing financial struggles at prom time. “Project Glam” proceeds will go for gift certificates for guys for tuxedo rental and flowers. “Every girl wants to go to the prom, but in this economy, it’s really tough,” said Alexis. “Guys have trouble doing the whole tux and flowers thing, too.” Dresses at the sale, which will be held next spring at Cloverdale High School, will be $10, shoes will be $2 and accessories will be $1.

Before the sale, there will be opportunities to buy raffle tickets for hair styling, manicures, flowers and prom tickets. There will also be discounted or free dry cleaning coupons available for the dresses at the sale. “We thought it was important to not have this be a give-away, so there wouldn’t be any embarrassment or hurt feelings by the girls. We didn’t want there to be any stigma attached,” said Jennifer Segner, Media Specialist at CHS and faculty advisor for “Project Glam.”

Alexis is applying for a Putnam County Community Foundation Youth Grant to help with the costs of this project.

If you have a formal, shoes, jewelry or other accessories that you would like to donate, or if you would like to make a cash donation, please call Cloverdale High School, and ask for Mrs. Segner at 765-795-4203, extension 5551. You can also drop items off at CHS marked “Project Glam.”
