Melba Maxine Lewis, 90

Melba Maxine Lewis, 90, of Stilesville, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012. She was born April 29, 1922 in Morgan County to the late Orbra and Esther (Smith) Lambert. Maxine married William E. Lewis November 20, 1942. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years; brothers, Roland and Dennis Lambert; and grandson, Gary Hillers.

Maxine and William are survived by one son, Marshall (Pam) Lewis of Stilesville; and Maxine’s sisters, Muril Sims and Marjorie Sargent. Also surviving is a daughter of William, Nancy (Bill) Hillers of Tyler, TX; grandsons, Allen (Kim) Hillers of Houston, TX and Paul Hillers of Dallas, TX; and great grandchildren, Kelsi and Andrew Hillers.

Maxine was a lifelong resident of Morgan County and a longtime member of Plainfield Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She loved Spanish and frequently was active with the Indianapolis West Washington Spanish Congregation. Maxine wintered in Florida for the last 40 years and while there was active with the Bradenton Airport Spanish Congregation.

She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed activities with many fellow Jehovah’s Witnesses making many new friends with a diverse background. Her knowledge of Spanish was very helpful in many of these countries.

In her younger years she was an accomplished horse breeder and trainer, showing in many states and continued to follow many equine activities even in later years.

Memorial Services will be at 4 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Greencastle Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 104 N. 10th Street, with visitation from 2:00 until time of services.
