Basil E. Meek, Jr. Basil E. Meek, Jr. Basil E. Meek, Jr., 87, of Cataract, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. He was born on December 18, 1925 to Basil E. and Pearl (Newell) Meek, Sr. in Cataract. He attended Quincy High School. He then went to work for the Monon Railroad during the WWII war effort. He was an assistant surveyor, much of that work also being around Cataract. Basil had worked the last 30 years as a caretaker of an estate in the Cataract area. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting were always a part of his life. Basil was also an avid birdwatcher. He loved babysitting his nieces and nephews, he enjoyed being with family and was a very kind and generous man to them.

Mr. Meek is survived by his brothers, Don Meek of Cataract and Bobby (Suzie) Meek of Bedford; sisters, Billie Martin of Bloomfield and Ruth Shepherd of Hendricksville; sister-in law, Helen Meek of Cataract; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne Meek and Eugene Meek; brothers-in law, Leroy Martin and Kenny Shepherd; sisters in law, Betty (Ellett) Meek and Betty (Vandeventer) Meek.

Funeral services were held at 1 pm, Monday, February 4, 2013 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Pastor Rudy Lee officiated. Burial followed at Cataract Cemetery.
