Staff Report

A Cloverdale woman passed away at an Indianapolis hospital following a March 4 traffic accident in southern Putnam County.

Meriam A. Miller, 76, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital from a circulatory ailment that likely caused her wreck, which occurred just before 9:00 p.m., north of the Owen-Putnam county line on U.S. 231 North.

According to information obtained by the Greencastle Banner Graphic from Putnam County Sheriff

’s Deputy T.J. Smith, it appeared as if Miller had suffered a stroke while traveling northbound, causing her 2003 Chevrolet

Tracker to swerve before exiting the roadway and ultimately inverting.

Statements from wit- nesses indicated the vehicle exited the roadway into a ditch before making its way partially up a hill and rolling onto its top. Miller suffered no visible injuries from the crash and was not wearing a safety belt.

Personnel from the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department helped extricate Miller from the vehicle. She was initially transported by Putnam County Operation Life to Putnam County Hospital before being airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital.
