Elementary School

Haven Smith, daughter of Kristin and Lee Smith, was awarded Student of the Month honors at Cloverdale Elementary School. Haven is a kindergarten student in Mrs. Baugh’s classroom and lists her favorite subjects as reading and P.E. She enjoys reading books about mermaids and dribbling basketballs with Mr. Briles.

Mrs. Baugh nominated Haven by saying, “Haven is an outstanding young lady. She does very well academically and loves to learn new things. Haven loves to help the teacher and her classmates. This year she has taken on the role of mentor for an autistic student in our class. She is encouraging and loves to be friends with everyone. Haven is the type of student every teacher would love to have in their classroom.”

Middle School

Cloverdale Middle School’s Student of the Month is Haley Smith. Haley is a fifth grade student and the daughter of Ronald and Melanie Smith.

Haley credits her success as a student to her parents, her teachers and doing her homework everyday. She is a very active young lady, participating in basketball and volleyball. During the summer, she also plays softball for the local youth league. She is also very active in 4-H, where she shows goats and cows. Haley likes science and has been thinking about two careers in the future, meteorologist and veterinarian, which are both science-related.

Mrs. Smith said, “It is an honor for me to be able to recommend Haley as Student of the Month. Haley is a very diligent, hardworking student in my homeroom class and beyond. She is kind, friendly and compassionate towards her peers. She shares notes and knowledge with students who have missed class and she will go out of her way to help a peer to catch up. Haley is my ‘go-to’ student when I need to be out of the classroom. I can always count on her to do the right thing, whenever or wherever necessary, no questions asked.”

High School

The Student of the Month for March at Cloverdale High School is sophomore Laura Worthington, daughter of Peter and Angela Worthington.

Laura lists her favorite subjects as math and choir. Her hobbies and interested include singing, running and star gazing. Her extra-curricular activities include cross country, basketball, track and field and FC, plus she serves as a CHS ambassador. She has received many awards and honors and her future plans are to attend college and major in nursing.

Mrs. Sewell said, “Laura is just a wonderful young lady, and we are so lucky to have her as a student here at CHS. She is polite, kind, caring and diligent in her efforts towards her work, and never, ever complains. She is also a great role model for those around her, not only as an awesome student, but as a student-athlete, too. She knows how to balance her school work with her extra-curricular activities. Laura is very deserving of this honor.”
