( Courtesy Photo The Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District recently held their second annual fundraiser for the Putnam County SWCD Community Foundation Endowment Fund. The event included a dinner, play by Drive by Comedy, and a silent auction. The purpose of the fundraiser is three fold. The Putnam County SWCD has a goal to reach a diverse audience; raise awareness of programs and services offered through the conservation agencies co-located within the field office; seek funding to help maintain and/ or add programming aimed specifically at securing a conservation technician and continued support to cost share program directives of the soil health initiatives that the Natural Resources Conservation Service is promoting.

What is unique about the event is that the planning committee was made up of SWCD, NRCS and Earth Team Volunteers. The heavy lifting for the event was done by the Earth Team Volunteers in securing auction items, sending out invitations and news releases, catering, setting up and overall coordination of this event. The Earth Team Volunteers even oversaw the development of the original play written specifically for the event by Drive by Comedy. The event raised over $3,000. In addition, the event highlighted the SWCD and NRCS programs and has brought new faces to the office asking for assistance. Earth Team members contributed well over 68 hours in preparing for this event.
