Poland Man Sentenced For January Burglaries In Countryside Estates

Wayne F. Burk Wayne F. Burk Wayne F. Burk, 22, of Poland, was sentenced April 30th in Owen County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to a series of burglaries that occurred earlier this year in Countryside Estates.

According to testimony given at the hearing, Burk, along with two of his friends decided to burglarize a neighbor’s residence, while that neighbor was on vacation. The trio entered the home on two separate occasions in January and took a variety of items including prescription drugs, a television set, a shotgun and food.

Owen County Prosecutor Don VanDerMoere noted Burk’s criminal history included two separate theft adjudications, both of which occurred before these burglaries.

Burk was sentenced to ten years in the Department of Corrections with six years executed and four years suspended to probation.

VanDerMoere issued a hearty thank you to the members of the Cataract Lake Area Crime Watch who assisted the Owen County Sheriff’s Department in apprehending Mr. Burk and his co-defendants.

Burk’s co-defendants, 21-year-old Anthony L. Carson and 22-year-old Michael L. Carson are still set for trial on their charges.
