James Lee Rike’s Memory Lives On Thanks To Benefit Motorcycle Ride

James Lee Rike James Lee Rike Nine-year-old James Lee Rike passed away in 2009 from injuries sustained in a golf cart mishap at his home north of Spencer, but his memory continues to live on thanks to the annual James Lee Rike Memorial Benefit Ride. The ride’s fifth installment will take place Saturday, June 8, beginning at the American Legion Wayne Post #64, located at 601 South Holt Road in Indianapolis.

Registration gets underway at 10:00 a.m. and continues until 12 noon. Cost is $15 per person. Kids can participate at no cost and cars are welcome.

The six-hour, 100-mile scenic ride will also include a poker run, door prizes, silent auction, a bike show from 6-8 p.m., and live entertainment in the conference room of the American Legion Wayne Post #64.

As an added bonus, the rider who brings the most new riders – riders who are new to the James Lee Rike Memorial Benefit Ride – will receive a $50 Harley- Davidson gift card.

The American Legion Riders of the American Legion Wayne Post #64 have graciously hosted the ride for the past two years.

The family of James Lee Rike comes together each year on the second Saturday in June to honor James Lee’s memory by helping other kids. Proceeds from the Annual James Lee Rike Memorial Benefit Ride benefit the Indiana Dream Team’s James Lee Rike Education Center.

Additionally, proceeds from the ride support Children’s Death Benefits, awarded to families that lose a child and have no insurance to pay funeral expenses. The first James Lee Memorial Benefit Ride paid the balance owed on James Lee’s funeral expenses.

The annual benefit ride has grown from 30 bikes the first year to 100 bikes in 2012.
