Hot Agriculture Topics Workshop

During 2013, everyone was on the lookout for Palmer Amaranth. Unfortunately, it was spotted in over 23 counties in Indiana including nearby Clay County. What makes Palmer Amaranth such a concern is that it is a herbicide resistant weed that causes producers to change their management strategies. Therefore, to help producers understand the different strategies available, Purdue Extension, Clay County SWCD, NRCS, and the Northview and Clay City FFA Chapters are hosting a Hot Agriculture Topics Workshop featuring Bill Johnson, Purdue Extension Specialist. Johnson will talk specifically on Palmer Amaranth and herbicide resistant weeds.

Jim Luzar, Purdue Extension Educator, will also be on hand to talk about cover crop weed suppression. Learn about agricultural apps from Matt Mace and David Schroer, Ceres Solutions. There will also be agency updates and an FFA update. The program is slated for January 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Clay County 4-H Exhibit Hall. If possible, RSVP by January 10 to the Extension Office by calling 812-448-9041.

The 2014 Northview and Clay City FFA Seed Auction will conclude at the end of this workshop. If you would like to find out more about the auction, contact Paige Stevenson at 812- 691-5550 or Colton Miller at 812-249-7774. All partnering organizations are affirmative action institutions and an equal opportunity provider and employer.
