(File Photo) Reduced to just two employees following the recent resignation of its interim director, the new year brings a few changes for the Owen County Robert (Bob) E. Clark Recycling Center following action taken Friday morning by the Owen County Board of Commissioners.

Longtime Owen County Health Department Environmentalist John Reeves was appointed as interim director of the recycling center until further notice or until a replacement can be found.

While the commissioners maintain control of the center, Reeves was given authority to hire a new employee to fill a vacant position and if needed, relieve employees from their position, as needed. The board advised a new hire should be selected from previously submitted applications.

“This thing has some serious problems, I don’t want to say it will go away, but there might be a chance it could happen,” Reeves said. “At least I’m already on the payroll and it’s not something else that becomes a burden if things take a turn.”

Although the commissioners maintain ultimate control over the center, the board also formed a Recycling Advisory Committee consisting of commissioner Donnie Minnick, county councilwoman Patty Steward, county auditor

Mike Wood, attorney Richard Lorenz, Reeves, and health department administrator Sheila Reeves. The committee will help the commissioners determine and oversee the future operations of the center.

The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 15, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Room, located on the second floor of the Owen County Courthouse.
