Annual Owen County SWCD Meeting Set For January 25th At Fairgrounds

SWCD Report

Transparency is a big thing these days. Do you want your government to be more transparent? Here is one opportunity! The Owen County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a governmental agency that uses local, state and sometimes federal funding to address the natural resource concerns of the county. Local funding is used to hire a full-time staff person and contributes to maintaining an office. Our local office currently has two grants that are being funded by state contributions. The Owen County SWCD applied for a federal grant, but did not make the cut this time around.

Come see what is being done with these local and state funds at the annual Owen County SWCD meeting, set for Saturday, January 25, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Owen County Fairgrounds. For $8, you can bend the ear of the SWCD staff and board of supervisors (as well as other county officials that attend), have a wonderful catered meal (that you don’t have to cook or clean up after), and find out what your tax dollars are being used for (just a small portion of them).

Lisa Holscher, the night’s guest speaker, will discuss the importance of soil health and how cover crops can play a part in improving soil health. The Purdue Extension Office will also be there to announce a farm family of the year. As an added bonus, you can participate in electing members of our county’s board of supervisors.

Get your tickets to join for an evening of transparency, education and good food (you might even leave with a door prize)! Tickets are available for purchase at the Owen County SWCD office at 743 East Franklin Street, Suite C (door on the north side) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m., and Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If these times are not convenient, call the office to schedule a mutual agreeable time or tickets will be available at the door.
