Fidler Voted President, Huge Vice President As Cloverdale School Corporation Elects 2014 Officers

Bobbi Nees Elected As Board Secretary

The Cloverdale School Board reorganized for the new year on January 13, electing Donna Fidler as president of the board, Duane Huge as vice president, and Bobbi Nees as secretary.

The board elected to keep many items the same as in years past, including its routine meeting schedule of the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.; board member compensation at $2,000 per member, per year; Debbie Rollings as corporation treasurer; Lynn Lotz as deputy treasurer; Ice Miller as corporation attorney; and the Spencer Evening World and Greencastle Banner- Graphic as the designated newspapers for legal advertisements.

Moving on to routine matters, the board heard from Cloverdale Community School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Carrie Milner, who announced that Cloverdale High School Counselor Beth Sewell recently received the Gold Start School Counseling Award.

Next the board heard from Area 30 Director Lora Busch, who provided an update on the career center and its programs. Juniors and seniors from Cloverdale, Eminence, Greencastle, North Putnam and South Putnam may enroll in the program with a class length of two and a half hours per day. Each program offers up to six high school credits each year and most offer free dual college credits. Programs include: construction equipment operator, 3D animation/ interactive media, early childhood education, teacher education, health careers, veterinary technology, nursing, culinary arts, computer systems networking, civil engineering and architecture, engineering design and development, welding, law enforcement, emergency medical services, automotive collision technology, automotive services technology and interdisciplinary cooperative education.

The board next addressed new business, approving the 2014-2015 school calendar as well as several professional leave requests, field trip requests and facility use requests.

In personnel matters, the following were approved: Employment

•Kim Fulkerson, CMS cafeteria (part-time) Coaching/Hire/Volunteer

•Zach Waycott, CHS volunteer varsity wrestling and varsity boys’ track coach.

•Carin Price, CMS volunteer cheer assistant.

The Cloverdale School Board will meet again on Monday, February 11, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Arthur C. Johnson Administration Building, located on East Logan Street. This meeting is open to the public.
