Suspect Sentenced In Owen Court For Role In Residential Burglaries

Michael Len Carson Michael Len Carson Michael Len Carson, 23, of Indianapolis, was sentenced January 21st in the Owen Circuit Court after pleading guilty to a series of January, 2013 burglaries that occurred in Countryside Estates.

According to testimony given at the hearing, Carson, along with his brother and another friend, decided to burglarize a neighbor’s residence while that neighbor was away from home on vacation. The three men entered the home on separate occasions and took a variety of items including prescription drugs, a television set, a shotgun, and food.

Owen County Prosecutor Don VanDerMoere noted that Carson’s criminal history included a prior adjudication for burglary. Carson further admitted that he knew the elderly victims and took advantage of them because the opportunity presented itself.

Carson was sentenced to ten years in the Department of Corrections, with four years executed and six years suspended to probation.

A co-defendant in the case, 22-year-old Wayne F. Burk of Poland, was sentenced on April 30, 2013 to ten years in the Department of Corrections, with six years executed and four years suspended to probation.
