Todd was among the 95 graduates of the 2014 Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Class who graduated from the Conservation Officer Recruit Training School in July of 2013. A native of Heltonville in Lawrence County, he is a 2008 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science in 2012 from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. During his time at Lipscomb, Todd ran cross country and track.

“I went to the National Parks Service Law Enforcement Academy in Philadelphia to try to get on as a law enforcement ranger. I applied for dif- ferent positions in the National Parks Service and didn’t get on, so I applied for the conservation officer position and went through their application process before being selected for recruit school,” he said. “I was one of 13 who started and we ended with eight guys. We went through the field training program for three months and started the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.”

During his time at the academy, Todd served as an assistant leader for his squad and was honored as ranking fourth in firearms qualifications in the class of 95 graduates. He was also honored for having the highest grade point average of the graduating class.

“I think I was lucky with where they placed me. It’s obviously not for everyone, you need to have a passion for the outdoors and working in the outdoors,” he said.

Todd began his assignment here in Owen County on Tuesday, March 18 where he joins veteran conservation officer Dale Clark.
