Drainage Project Bid Approved At Monday’s CCSC Board Meeting

The Cloverdale Community School Corporation (CCSC) Board convened May 14th for its monthly meeting.

After the approval of previous meeting minutes and claims and financial reports, the board voted to approve board policies 1537 2510 and 5410 after their second reading. The policy pertained to military service, adoption of curriculum materials and promotion placement and retention. The panel also heard a first reading of board policy number 5111 pertaining to student transfer policy.

Moving on to communications, project manager Dan Sulkoske gave a presentation to the board regarding the phase II drainage project. After minimal discussion, the board voted 5-1 to approve the base bid and alternate one with the winning bid awarded Steve Cooper Excavation. The lone nay vote was cast by Barbara Nees.

A brief wellness committee report and advance ed update were presented to the committee, before CCSC Superintendent Dr. Carrie Milner spoke to the board regarding current Indiana legislation HB1062 and SB1 which address personal property tax in the state.

With no unfinished business on the agenda, the panel moved on to new business where a donation from the State Farm Good Neighbor Program was accepted. The board also approved the 2014 summer school proposal for Snails to Trails as well as the driver’s education program proposal.

Four facility use requests were brought to a vote and approved including:

•Walking at CES/CMS after 5:00 p.m.

•Weight lifting at CHS three days a week.

•Volleyball camp in the CMS gym, June 3-18.

•Promenade in the CHS gym, May 2-3

The following field trip requests were also approved:

•Sophomores to Greencastle, April 9.

•Art Honor Society to St. Louis, April 18.

•ALS Class to Fair Oaks Dairy, April 23.

•FFA judging at Eastern Hancock, April 26.

•Second grade trip to Lieber State Recreation Area, May 2.

•FFA to Hendricks County, May 3.

•Prom Committee to Greencastle, May 3.

•Kindergarten trip to the Indianapolis Zoo, May 9.

•P.E.D.A.L. award winners to Victory Field in Indianapolis, May 15.

•FFA State Contest at Purdue University, May 16-17.

•Fourth graders to the Indiana State Museum, May 19.

•FFA to Holiday World, June 4.

The board later voted unanimously to approve a retirement incentive of $20,000 for current Cloverdale Community School Corporation teachers who meet the proper requirements. Paperwork indicating that intent would need to be complete and filed with Dr. Milner by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6.

The board also voted unanimously to join the Western Indiana Conference.

Personnel was the last item on the agenda, with the following approved: Resignation

•Jarrod Duff, CMS head baseball coach. Coaching/Volunteer

•Tim Powell, CMS baseball coach.

•Larry Hall, CMS volunteer baseball coach.

The Cloverdale Community School Corporation Board will meet again on Monday, May, 12, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Arthur C. Johnson Administration Building.
