CCSC Music Department Earns All-State ISSMA Banner, IPA State Championship

(Courtesy Photo) Cloverdale’s Instrumental Music Department has experienced many performance opportunities for the talented, hardworking students involved with the program. These contests and events occur outside of the regular school day. Student musicians, their parents, and instructors have made extra efforts to rehearse and perform to the best of their ability, being positive ambassadors for Cloverdale Community Schools (CCSC).

Performance ensembles began for the school with a Top 25 finish at the Indiana State Fair last August. That was followed up with an ISSMA GOLD rating for marching band. The next contests for the music department were held in February, March and April including organizations such as the Cloverdale Winter Guard, ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Concert Choir, Concert Band, and the Cloverdale-Monrovia Independent Winter Drumline. Details of their achievements are as follows:

Indiana State School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Terre Haute North High School on Saturday, Feb 1st and 8th. Cloverdale High School sent over 60 participants in individual or group events.

#2. The Cloverdale Pep Band enjoyed an exciting season of performances at home basketball games. #3. The Jazz Band performed at the ISSMA Jazz Contest and earned a Gold rating and on WZPL radio. In addition to concerts they also performed for the Elementary and Middle school students on March 22nd. #4. Cloverdale’s Winter Drumline performed an original composition by Instructor Rusty Bottemley. The unit, which has been an Indiana Percussion Association State Finalist the past three years performed at several events earning first place at each. 2012 State Champions in the Independent class and 2013 State Runner-up, the group regained the 2014 Indiana State Championship with a Gold medal performance The group had 23 Cloverdale students and six Monrovia students. #5. The Cloverdale Winter Guard has been participating in Indiana High School Color Guard Association contest this winter. The group performed their show at several contest and received positive comments about their program and efforts. Members included Kadie Baker, Kess Raisor, Payton Jannings, Vanessa Sims, Tatiana Rainey, Amanda Roberson, Taylor Spadie, Emily Wardlow, Sammi Knight, Heather Hall, Ashley Roman. The program continues to mature and progress under the direction of Mrs. Angie Raisor.

#8. The EMERALD COMMAND will conclude their successful year with performances at Music In The Parks contest along with the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band. This will take place at Kings Island on May 17th. On May 25th, the combined marching band will perform at the Indianapolis 500 Pre-Race parade and stay to observe the event in person! Final performance will be at the Cloverdale graduation ceremony on Saturday May 31.
