Traveling Art Show At MCSP Nature Center

A science through art exhibit, funded by Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. (POP, Inc.) and Project Aware, is making waves crosscountry. “What Goes Around Comes Around” is an international award winning art exhibit traveling across the United States in a year long quest to build awareness about plastic in our ocean. The exhibit is currently on display at McCormick’s Creek State Park in the Nature Center through Sunday, June 15.

Researcher/artist Bonnie Monteleone has taken her love for art and passion for the sea and turned it into a magnificent eye-opening exhibit. Using plastics collected in nearly 10,000 nautical miles and acquiring “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” a print by Katsushika Hokusai circa 1829-1832, Monteleone has illustrated how much the ocean has changed in less than 200 years.

While “What Goes Around Comes Around” is in town, the exhibit will be a feature at ‘Arts in the Park,’ an annual event at McCormick’s Creek State Park from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14th. Also on June 14th, POP, Inc, the Owen County 4-H Fishing Team, and the Owen County Soil and Water Conservation District will be hosting a White River cleanup, meeting at the shelter house in Cooper Commons in Spencer at 3:00 p.m. Gloves and bags will be provided for all volunteers.

Sponsored by Project Aware, as “What Goes Around Comes Around” crosses the United States it aims to raise awareness for the ever-increasing amount of plastics plaguing our oceans, with the goal of changing people’s view of single use plastics and getting everyone involved with the solution.

Established in 2012, Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. is a non-governmental, 501(c)(3) organization conducting research on the perils of plastic in the marine environment. The mission of POP, Inc. is to educate, conduct outreach and incubate solutions to inspire action and change in the way we see singleuse plastics.

Research and outreach efforts rely on the generosity of donations. To donate, visit www.plasticoceanproject.org.
