Poland Teen Competes In 2014 Indiana Barrel Racing State Finals

The International Barrel Racers Association held the 2014 Indiana State Finals in Cloverdale, August 15-17). Jordan Boyd, a junior at Cloverdale High School and daughter of Bruce and Melissa Boyd of Poland, came into the event in fifth place. On Saturday, Jordan ran her personal-best at the arena finishing second with a time of 16.034. With the second place finish Jordan became the State Reserve Champion. On Sunday she eclipsed that time with a 15.736. As a “Top Dog” finisher she will compete in the national finals, to be held in Cloverdale in October. Due to her standing she will automatically compete in the “short go” for National honors.

Jordan also attended the Martha Josey barrel school in Texas where she competed against students from all over the country, finishing third. The Josey school is the premier barrel racing school in the country. Its namesake is Martha Josey who is the Michael Jordan of the rodeo world. Martha has won several national, world titles and a gold medal where she was a teammate of Lane Frost from which a movie was made “8 Seconds.”

Jordan is an honor student at CHS and is pursuing a rodeo scholarship from Texas Tech where she plans to study animal science. She endeavors to become an equine chiropractor and compete in the pro rodeo series. (Courtesy Photo)
