Yvonne was diagnosed in October 2013 while she was pregnant and is fighting an aggressive cancer while continuing to be there for her four young children.

Event organizers would like to invite the public to join them in a show of support. Cost is $15 per rider or $25 per couple for a fun-filled day. Registration will take place from 9-11 a.m. at Walmart Transportation in Greencastle with the kickstands being kicked up at 11 a.m. Come early for a free-will breakfast and lunch available afterwards. There will be T-shirts for sale, 50/50 drawing along with door prizes.

Yvonne’s Story

Yvonne Dwigans is a 35-year-old mother of three boys and a miracle daughter who was diagnosed one month after becoming pregnant with her daughter, Ashton. Her cancer affects 1.6 people out of every 100,000.

Yvonne became pregnant with her daughter, Ashton, in October of 2013. Shortly thereafter, she had an ultrasound which showed a mass on her cervix doctors thought was a polyp. Surgery was scheduled to remove the polyp and at that time they discovered it was a very aggressive form of cancer. At that time, the doctors told her she would have to make a choice to terminate the pregnancy to save her life or save the baby and her three boys would be without a mother. Yvonne went as far as setting up a funeral and facing the day she would have to say goodbye to her little angel, Ashton.

At 19 weeks along and scheduled for a hysterectomy, the pathology team came back with a new course of action. Yvonne was able to take treatments and carry baby Ashton long enough before delivery for her survival. Baby Ashton was born healthy and got to meet her mommy at 31 weeks. Although there were hard times and lots of obstacles, baby Ashton is beautiful and healthy today!

Unfortunately, with illness comes the burden of the reality of life due to the several types of the treatments, complications of surgeries and more surgery to come, Yvonne hasn’t been able to work since her illness which affects her income and insurance while putting a financial burden on her and the children. Yvonne is continuing daily to fight this very aggressive cancer which has been very stubborn.

This charity ride is a way of getting some local folks together to help make a difference to this family. Please consider joining in supporting Yvonne through this journey by helping get the word out about the event. If you have questions, feel free to contact Sharon York at 765-721-1020.
