Career Development Events are designed to encourage youth to learn all they can about a specific topic. In entomology contestants learn to identify insect specimens. They must also complete a quiz about insects and management techniques. Youth practice the skills of observation, analysis, and communication – life skills they will use their entire adulthood. Youth also enjoy the fun, teamwork, and spirit of friendly competition of Career Development Event contests. There are more than a dozen different competitions where 4-H’ers may participate in career development events.
