Putnam County’s Master Gardener Association Hosts Garden Seminar

The Putnam County Master Gardeners’ dedication was put to the test as they hosted their annual garden seminar. This year, over 50 individuals braved the cold and snow on February 21st to take part in the “Wit and Wisdom; Come Laugh and Learn” garden seminar. Presentations covered a variety of subjects from landscape issues caused by human error, fruit trees, organic gardening, and plant issues shared by garden blogger Amanda Thomsen. Additionally, participants were all able to make a garden journal or press flower art during breakout sessions led by Putnam County Master Gardeners.

What makes this seminar unique is that the Putnam County Master Gardener Association did all the planning, promoting, and hosting of this seminar in order to share their love and knowledge of gardening to others throughout Indiana. The seminar was chaired by three members, Jane Jackson, Karen Martoglio, and Kristi Nelson; but the seminar would not have been successful without the help of their fellow members, the countless donations they received by local businesses, and the vendors who sold items.

If you have an interest in gardening and would like to become a Master Gardener, please contact the Purdue Extension- Putnam County office at 765-653-8411 to find out when future classes will be hosted. To become a Master Gardener, individuals must complete a 12-week program offered by Purdue Extension and can then join the local association and continue to earn various certifications based on their continued education and volunteer activities.

If you do not want to become a Master Gardener, but would like to support this organization, then please consider attending their Plant Auction that will take place on Saturday, May 30th at 10:00 a.m. in the Producers Building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.
