Marie Powell, 88

Marie Powell, age 88, of Cloverdale, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 23, 2015.

Born May 11, 1926 in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of Frank and Daisy (Sheffield) Pierce and was a graduate of Belle Union High School “Class of 1944” She married Hubert E. Powell on January 5, 1946 and he preceded her in death on February 11, 2007.

Marie was a homemaker and had worked in retail for Schultz’s, Pells, Cloverdale IGA, and Cloverdale Flower Shop. She was a member of the Mt. Hebron Church, Cloverdale and an over 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Marie was a gifted painter, seamstress, and crafts person. She took great pride in the quality of her work on any project undertaken. She loved wildlife and the outdoors, and for many years was the companion of her husband’s & son’s hunting excursions. She enjoyed no activity more than fishing, always ready to go at a moment’s notice. She was selfless in her love and devotion to family.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Pamela) Powell of Clermont and daughter, Judy Powell of Cloverdale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents, Cloyd and Rosalie Allen; husband, Hubert Powell; brothers, Lawrence and Thomas Pierce; and a sister, Agnes McCracken.

Graveside services were Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Cloverdale Cemetery.
