CMS Seventh Grade Team Wins County Tourney; Finishes Season Undefeated

Cloverdale’s seventh grade girls’ basketball team recently won the Putnam County tournament, defeating South Putnam in the first round and North Putnam in the championship game. (Courtesy Photo) Cloverdale Middle School’s seventh grade girls’ basketball team recently won the Putnam County tournament, defeating South Putnam and North Putnam.

In the opening round game, the Lady Clovers defeated South Putnam 38- 21.

Sammie Shrum led the team in scoring with 11 points, followed by Hailey Thomas with eight, Lakkain Price seven, Arianna McCracken four, Emily Byford four, and Taylor Royce and Kassie Wade two each.

Morgan Trivett led the team in steal with four while Shrum led in assists with seven and along with Price, led the team in rebounds with seven.

The championship of the Putnam County tournament pitted the Lady Clovers against the North Putnam Lady Cougars. Cloverdale, on the strength of solid shooting by Price, won the championship, 27-16.

Price led the team in scoring with 15 points, connecting on 6-of-11 attempts from the field and 5-of-8 from the free throw line. Price also led the team in rebounds with 11, in steals with six, and added an assist. McCracken added four points, Thomas four, Shrum two, and Byford two.
