Juveniles Facing Adult Charges In Connection With Robbery, Battery

The May 25th robbery investigation conducted by Owen County Sheriff’s Department Captain Detective Erich Teuton and Dan McBride of the Owen County Prosecutor’s Office has resulted in the detention and arrest of five suspects, who are now facing various charges in the Owen Circuit Court I. According to Owen County Prosecutor Don VanDer- Moere, two fifteen-year-old suspects are facing various charges in juvenile court and three other suspects are facing adult charges.

Mercedes Dawn Caito, 17, of Cloverdale, is facing formal adult charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury (Level 3 Felony) and theft (A misdemeanor).

Dakota Cary Cutshaw, 17, of Greencastle, is facing adult formal charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury (Level 3 Felony), battery resulting in bodily injury, and theft (A misdemeanor).

Coleton Gibberson, 17, of Greencastle, is facing formal adult charges of robbery resulting in bodily injury (Level 3 Felony) and theft (A misdemeanor).

According to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case, the 911 call was made to the Owen County Dispatch Center in the early morning hours of May 25th. The victim reported that he had been beaten by one or more masked individuals during an early morning home invasion at his residence. The victim reported that one individual possessed a handgun during the incident and that the beating caused him to lose consciousness. After the victim awoke, the suspects were gone and he noticed that a number of items had been taken from his residence on Wilson Village Road.

The prosecutor issued a reminder that these criminal charges are only allegations and that these suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
