Clovers Advance Three Runners To Ben Davis Cross Country Regional

Chelsie Edwards Chelsie Edwards The Cloverdale boys’ and girls’ cross country teams traveled to South Putnam Saturday where they went head-to-head against runners from Avon, Brownsburg, Decatur Central, Greencastle, Danville, South Putnam, Plainefield, Cascade, Bethesda Christian, North Putnam and Tri-West Hendricks.

In the girls’ race, the Lady Clovers finished seventh as a team, just two places out of the fifth and final team advancement position. The Clovers were led by Chelsie Edwards, who finished in 17th overall with a time of 22:28.71 and Victoria Szalay in 24th place, with a time of 23:00.67. Both girls finished in the top 10 of those not advancing with a team and therefore qualified for regional competition. Other Clovers competing included Clare Plamondon in 38th in 23:56.85, Trinity Rairdon in 60th in 32:00.57, and Darlene Whitaker in 61st in 35:56.13.

Plainfield took home the team title (38), with Avon in second (42), Greencastle third (66), Brownsburg fourth (104), South Putnam fifth (119), Cascade sixth (156), Cloverdale seventh (176) and Decatur Central eighth (191). Greencastle’s Emma Wilson won the overall race with a time of 18:57.59.

Nick Blundell Nick Blundell The Cloverdale boys’ squad finished ninth as a team. They were led by Nick Blundell who finished in 26th place overall with a time of 18:32.92. Blundell finished in the top 10 of those not advancing with a team was will move on to compete in the Ben Davis regional this Saturday.

Chad Stevens was 44th for the Clovers in 19:26.42, followed by Nolan Maners in 55th in 20:15.84, Rylan Hall 58th in 20:31.83, Ryan Heavener in 64th in 21:08.75 and Abel Bates in 70th in 23:04.65.

Avon won the team title with 30 points, followed by Brownsburg (80), Decatur Central (84), Greencastle (124), Danville (125), South Putnam (158), Plainfield (165), Cascade (181) and Cloverdale (236). Hariharan Sathyamurthy of Brownsburg won the race with a time of 16:49.55.

Tori Szalay Tori Szalay Edwards, Szalay and Blundell will travel to the Ben Davis regional Saturday, October 17th. Running will begin at 10:00 a.m.
