Cloverdale Community Schools Receives Bomb Threat Thursday

Staff Report

According to reports, the Cloverdale Community School Corporation (CCSC) was the target of an online bomb threat last Thursday evening which turned out to be a “joke.”

“We had a middle school student Snapchat a bomb threat implicating the middle school,” CCSC Superintendent Greg Linton told the Spencer Evening World. “The threat was made after school on February 4, 2016. School administration was notified of the threat by community members at 5:30 p.m. After a brief meeting of corporation administration and law enforcement, the student was identified. The Cloverdale Police Department went to the home of the student and questioned the student and his parents. The student confessed to making the threat. Both the student and his parents have been cooperative. The student has been detained.

“I notified parents through our Honeywell Alert System and our corporation web page and notified staff through a Honeywell Alert and email,” Linton continued. “All students were searched this morning prior to enter the schools and all buildings are on lock down status for the entire day.”

A statement from Linton was also posted on the CCSC website (www.cloverdale.k12.in.us) and reads as follows:

“Today (February 4, 2016), after the dismissal of school, Cloverdale Community Schools received a bomb threat. During a police investigation, a Cloverdale Middle School student confessed to making the threat. Both the student, and the parents, have cooperated fully with the Cloverdale Police Department. All information obtained in the investigation will be sent to the Putnam County Prosecutor.

“All Cloverdale Community Schools buildings have been thoroughly searched and have been declared safe for students to return to school on Friday, February 5, 2016. All schools will be on lockdown throughout the entire day as an extra precaution. All students will be searched prior to entering the buildings, so delays should be expected. Corporation Administration takes the safety of our students seriously. We have taken the necessary steps to neutralize this threat.”
