Homecoming at Big Walnut Baptist Church on October 9

Big Walnut Baptist Church located at 5512 W. County Road 950 S. in Reelsville is having a Homecoming Celebration on Sunday, October 9 at 10:30 AM. The homecoming is a special service to celebrate anyone that is currently attending or has ever attended Big Walnut in the past. It is a chance to celebrate the history of the church and recognize the impact the church has had on the community.

There will also be a pitch-in for everyone after the service.

Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church had its early beginnings in Manhattan, Indiana forming the first original church services in August 1856. These services were held in homes and sometimes the Sunday services were held in various school buildings.

The first church building was about two miles southeast of the present location. Because of road conditions and difficulties in reaching the church, a more suitable location was desired.

Moses Rissler donated the grounds where our present church stands. It was built in 1905.

Anyone with a connection to Big Walnut or that has an interest in learning about the church is encouraged to attend.

Everyone is welcome as we celebrate our history, heritage and community.
