Elementary School

Third grader Jocelyn Peck has been named student of the month for October at Cloverdale Elementary School. Jocelyn, or Josey as she is sometimes called, is the daughter of Chad and Sharyl Peck.

Jocelyn is a third grade student in Mrs. Rich’s class. Her favorite subject is math and her favorite book is “Where the Red Fern Grows.” She enjoys playing outside in woods and coloring in adult coloring books because they are challenging. When she grows up, Jocelyn would like to work with animals, possibly as a horse riding teacher.

Mr. Brown nominated Jocelyn saying, “Josey is an outstanding student. She is a hard worker in all aspects of academics. She has made straight A’s the two years I’ve had her in class. She has read all the 3D reading books to level Z, quite impressive! Josey possesses a positive attitude towards her classmates as well as teachers. She is always willing to jump in and help. She does this by giving spelling tests to students who have been absent. She also reads with students that are not quite at her academic ability. Josey was a joy to have in class. She has good attendance. She is responsible in her work and actions. I think she is an outstanding choice for student of the month.” Middle School

Brady Mann, son of Joe and Angela Mann, was chosen as student of the month at Cloverdale Middle School.

According to his teachers, Brady is an excellent student who has kept impeccable grades. His favorite class is math, although he does very well in language arts as well. As an eighth grade student, he has already completed high school algebra and is currently taking high school geometry.

Brady is the FFA middle school president, played on the seventh grade basketball team, was chosen to participate in publications, was part of the team that recorded morning announcements. He is very involved in 4-H and is a member of the youth group at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He plans to attend Purdue University and major in Ag Econ and minor in Ag Engineering. He would like to work on the farm where his father works.

“Brady is a very nice young man,” Mrs. Gellert said. “He works hard and I enjoy having him in class. He always asks questions and is engaged in the learning process during Geometry class. Brady is an excellent student. In closing, I would like to wish Brady all the best for his future and I encourage him to continue to strive for excellence throughout his life.”

High School

The high school student of the month for October is Abigail “Abby” Walker.

Abby is the daughter of Joe and Melinda Walker. She is a junior at CHS and lists her favorite subjects as pre-calculus and Spanish III. Her hobbies and interests include playing basketball and golf. She is involved in FCA, Ambassador and Spanish Club. She was named math student of the year. Her future plans are to attend college and play a collegiate sport.

“Abby Walker, the girl of quiet strength, is one awesome young lady,” CHS guidance counselor Beth Sewell said. “She is always polite, kind, caring, responsible, friendly, and helpful. She is very conscientious about her grades, and always gives her best efforts at whatever she is doing. Abby is well thought of by her peers and the staff here at CHS. Congratulations to Abby and her family.”
