(Staff Photo) A third annual effort to generate area donations to the Cunot Community Center aims to further the “hand-up” given each holiday season by Dr. (Doc) Sly Z-Bop.

The local recording artist has been a longtime semi-silent contributor to those in need. His proceeds utilized come from royalties generated by the 2006 released tune, “Las Vegas Blues.”

The ballad-rap is an embellished true story about his life living in Las Vegas, where he gambled for a living.

In 2014, Doc and his “Z-Bop Hand-Up Program,” provided a $1,000 check to assist with the center’s dire financial state in order to make roof repairs and structural improvements. He also donated a new hot water heater.

His third consecutive $1,000 check is coming to the center shortly and he’s urging others in the community, be it individual or organization, to give what they can, if they can.

“The center helps so many people and it’s fun for me to give back to a community that’s been good to me,” he said. “There are a few other organizations I’ll help from time to time. I know they can use anything they can get. If there is anything you can give, go ahead and give it, whatever you can afford, but if you can’t, you can’t.”

The Cunot Community Center is located at 5530 State Road 42, at the corner of State Road 42 and Cunot-Cataract Road. The center can be reached by phone at 765-795-3461.
