Ronald Lee Lewis, 82

Ronald Lee Lewis was born March 18, 1934 in Eminence, Indiana to James Russell and Esther (Arend) Lewis. He went home to God on January 13, 2017.

He married Golda Mae French in 1960 predeceased in 1989. Also predeceased by his parents and brother Freddie. He was part of the Lewis Trading Center in Eminence as employee and owner most of his life, and in later years with partner Donald Kivett. For several years he owned and operated a semi and drove for Morgan Drive Away, Inc. of Elkhart, Indiana.

He married Violet S. Garland in 1994 in Tucson, Arizona. They retired to Leesburg, Florida and for many years they spent six months annually traveling in their recreational vehicle (RV) from New York to California, Canada, and Alaska.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in Korea. He also spent many years as a firefighter with the Eminence Volunteer Fire Department and served as its fire chief from 1964 to 1983. For many years he served on the Board of Directors for the Clay County, Indiana Telephone Service. He was a lifelong member of the Eminence Christian Church, though he attended the First Christian Church while living in Leesburg, FL.

He is survived by his wife Violet S. Lewis of Leesburg, FL; his sons Randy Lewis and wife Bobbee of Eminence, IN and Darell Lewis and wife Debbie of Goshen, IN; stepson John Garland of Chantilly, VA; granddaughters Jessica Dunlap, Christine Miller, and Kimberly Wingard of Goshen, IN; Rachel and Rosalie Lewis of Eminence, IN; Aimee Kipps and Julia Garland of Raleigh, NC and Natalie Garland of Gainesville, VA; and seven (7) great-grandchildren.

Life Memorial services will be held in Eminence, IN at date to be announced later. Memorial gifts may be made to the Eminence Christian Church or charity of choice.

Beyers Funeral Home handled arrangements in Leesburg, Florida. Arrangements in Indiana are to be handled by Whitaker’s Funeral Home in Cloverdale, IN.
