No Help Desk at PCPL on Friday June 2nd

There will be no technician available at Putnam County Public Library’s Community Help Desk on Friday, June 2nd. The Community Help Desk will resume normal hours on Monday, June 5th. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Community Help Desk is a free service offered by Putnam County Public Library and is open to everyone. During Community Help Desk hours, PCPL has a computer technician available to diagnose and help repair your computer and electronics or answer any of your technology questions. Community Help Desk happens on Mondays from 2 - 4 PM, Tuesdays from 4 - 7 PM, Thursdays from 10 AM to 1 PM, and Fridays from 2 - 4 PM. The Library will be Closed May 29th

The Putnam County Public Library will be closed to the public on Monday, May 29, 2017 for Memorial Day. The library will reopen for normal operating hours on Tuesday, May 30th. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Baby & Me is Back!

Baby and Me has returned to the Putnam County Public Library’s Imagination Portal! Join us every Tuesday at 10 a.m. beginning May 30th. We’ll sing songs, read stories, play with toys, talk, and laugh with your baby. Baby and Me is for Early Talkers (newborns to 24 months) and their caretakers. Silly Safaris is Coming to the Library!

Join us at Putnam County Public Library at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 3rd, to help us kickoff our 2017 Summer Reading Program! You’ll be able to register for this summer’s program and enjoy a LIVE animal show by Silly Safaris! Silly Safaris is the leading provider of LIVE animal conservation education in Indiana. A Silly Safaris LIVE animal show is the perfect blend of fact and fun for all ages! Silly Safaris keeps the entire audience involved. Special guests from the audience join each animal for a game that teaches about the natural world. You’ll see a variety of reptiles, mammals, birds and bugs for an experience everyone will remember. You won’t want to miss this unique opportunity to learn about and interact with these exotic creatures!

Library Outreach Brings Free Computer Classes and Technical Support to Cloverdale

In a continuing effort to bring computer classes and technical support to areas of Putnam County outside of Greencastle, Putnam County Public Library will be offering five free computer classes and 3 Community Help Desk sessions at the Knoy Resource Center in Cloverdale in June. Tuesday, June 6th will begin a threepart, hands-on computer basics course as well as classes focusing on tablets and smartphones and basic Internet use.

*Tuesday, June 6th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Introduction to Computers Part One will help you understand how the computer works will give you the confidence to tackle future tasks on your own. Topics covered, Basic Computer Operation, and Mouse Exercises.

*Tuesday, June 13th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, part two of our Introduction to Computers series will get patrons used to navigating the computer and understanding the why and the how. Topics covered: Applications, Operating Systems, and Hands on with our Graphical User Interface, Windows 10.

*Tuesday, June 20th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, part three of our Introduction to Computers series will build on part two by walking you through the most important parts of your operating system, managing your installed applications, and organizing your personal computer files. Topics covered: Files and folders, copy and paste, and adding and removing applications.

On Friday, June 16th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Tablets and Smartphones class is for those who need help with a new device, or are considering making a purchase. We will discuss the different types of devices available including the Apple iPad, Microsoft Windows tablets, Android-based Google tablets and smartphones. Attendees will learn basic skills needed to connect to the Internet as well as how to use interactive maps, install applications and games, listen to music, and watch movies.

On Friday, June 30th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Introduction to the Internet will introduce patrons to search engines, browsers, and some of the best websites on the Internet.

The library will provide a computer technician at The Knoy Center for Community Help Desk sessions on Friday, June 9th from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM, Friday, June 23rd from 11:00 am to 1:00 PM, and Tuesday, June 27th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. All classes are for beginners and are free and open to the public but registration is required since space is limited. Community Help Desk Sessions are first-come firstserved assistance with your computer or electronics, no appointment necessary. To sign up for any of the upcoming classes, you can view the library website at pcpl21.org, call Mike at 765- 653-2755 Ext. 118, or stop by our circulation or reference desks at the library.

Wednesday, May 24th:

Mah Jongg Game, 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM

For all players who know the game (not the computer version). Newcomers are welcome to watch and learn.

Masterpiece of the Month, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Listen to a story and create your own masterpiece! This month, we’ll draw inspiration from Beth Krommes, illustrator of The House in the Night, to create our own scratch board art. All ages are welcome.

Yarn Perch, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Need Crochet help or Crochet Companionship? Jo MacPhail will take her Yarn Perch (located on the balcony above the lobby) every Wednesday evening to help those in need.

Thursday, May 25th:

PCPL has a computer technician available to diagnose and help repair your computer and electronics. Most computer problems can be repaired in 20 minutes but if your computer problem is severe enough, or would take longer than 30 minutes to fix, we may recommend you take it to a professional.

Parachute Games, 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Join us as we sing, dance, and play games with our parachutes. For ages 2+.

Bridge for Everyone, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM

Come to an open Bridge game on Thursday afternoons in the Kiwanis room. All who enjoy Bridge are invited to attend, regardless of skill level. This group will be facilitated by Dorothy Brown. If you have questions, please contact Barbara Timm at btimm@PCPL21.org.

LibrarYoga, 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM

PCPL is offering free Yoga sessions led by certified yoga instructors every Thursday evening. Classes are for all levels of students. Participants should wear comfy, stretchy clothes. Yoga mats, blocks, and straps are available for your use.

Friday, May 26th:

Imagination Portal Unplugged, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Looking for a little quiet time? These hours are for you. Enjoy the Imagination Portal without monitors, video games, or music in the background.
