Lady Clovers shutout West Vigo Thursday evening on the road, 3-0

The Cloverdale varsity softball team, along with head coach Jim Spencer, visited West Terre Haute Thursday evening to take on the host West Vigo Vikings. After seven innings of the play, the Lady Clovers headed home with a 3-0 shutout win.

“Cloverdale improved to 19-4 in a road win over West Vigo,” coach Spencer noted. “Lauren Meek pitched an excellent game in the shut out win and improved to 14-3 on the season. (It was) A great collective effort on defense, as well as, a great job of finding ways to put a few runs on the board.”

The Clovers plated a run to start the game and added two more in the third for the win. CHS finished with three runs on eight hits and committed no errors. West Vigo had zero runs on six hits and committed one error.

Meek finished with seven strikeout in the circle and Kelsey Helterbrand led the team’s offense with a single, a double and a RBI. Kiley Shedron had two singles and a RBI and Baylee Hamilton had a single and a double.

“We need to get a couple of good practices in over the next few days and get ready for a very tough opponent in the sectional on Tuesday,” Spencer said.

Cloverdale will travel to Cascade High School on Tuesday, May 23 for a 7 p.m. contest with Southmont. The winner will face the winner of North Putnam and Monrovia in the sectional semi-final to be played Wednesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m.
