Several Clover athletes qualify for track and field regional

The Cloverdale boys track and field team took part in the Terre Haute North sectional Thursday evening, finishing seventh out of 12 teams.

Junior Tyler Kaeff led the Clovers, finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.56 and second in the 300-meter hurdles in 40.99. Andrew Monnett was third in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.12. Both boys will advance to regional competition.

“The boys had several regional qualifiers. Kaeff placed second in both the 110-hurdles and 300-hurdles,” Cloverdale coach Andy Tyler said. “We still have a few things to fix and that should drop his times significantly.

“Andrew Monnett also made it out of the sectional in the 300-hurdles. He has gotten better every race. He should have a strong showing at the regional.”

Blake Willis earned an automatic bid to regional with a second place finish in pole vault at 12-0. His teammate, Jordan Berardi, finished sixth at 11-6, but also got an invitation to regional competition based on his performance.

“I am confident he will perform better at the regional,” Tyler explained. “He knows what he needs to fix and how to fix it. I look for him to have a strong performance at the regional Jordan Berardi also qualified in pole vault. He has really improved throughout the season.”

The Clovers 4x400-meter relay team placed third. With a time of 3:38.31, Monnett, Kaeff, Elliot Williamson and Ryan Heavener, advancing to regionals as well.

“Our 4x400 team also ran well, placing 3rd,” coach Tyler said. “They surprised many of the other teams with their finish, but not themselves. They knew they had a good chance to make it out.

“We have had an up and down season, but they really fought hard at the sectional. They take a lot of pride with when they step onto the track.”

Cloverdale will travel to Bloomington North High School on Thursday, May 25 to take part in regional competition. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m.
