The CEO students were interviewed during class in August of 2016, by Jeff McIntosh, Human Resources and Safety Manager for Martin Marietta. As a result of these interviews, three students were offered internships with Martin Marietta for the 2016-17 school year. Mock interviews took place again last week and interviewees are awaiting potential internship offers.

Mr. McIntosh, shared with Area 30 staff that Martin Marietta realized they need to make some changes in their hiring and training process. Barry Benson, parent of one of Area 30’s CEO students, who works for Martina Marietta, suggested they get in touch with Area 30 to discuss employment opportunities. As a result of discussions between Mr. McIntosh, Scott Livesay, the CEO instructor and JR Scott, the CEO teaching assistant, the internship program was launched in the 2016-17 school year. Interns work under the Plant Manager, Mike Mote, 4 days per week and attended their CEO class one day per week. While in class, students study for their Class B CDL. Three seniors just completed their internships and all three were offered full time employment with Martin Marietta at various sites. These positions come with excellent pay, great benefits and offer career advancement opportunities.

Area 30 Career Center is fortunate to have so many community partners willing to allow students to gain work experience in their organization. Martin Marietta is just the latest employer to provide Area 30 students with excellent career pathway opportunities!
