Bainbridge High School alumni celebrate


The Bainbridge High School (BHS) class of 1967 was recognized for their 50th graduation anniversary at the recent BHS Alumni banquet held in Bainbridge. (Courtesy Photo) Over 200 alumni and friends attended the recent 2017 Bainbridge High School (BHS) Alumni Association’s 103rd annual banquet at the Bainbridge Community Building.

(Courtesy Photo) The evening was highlighted by the presentation of the BHS Alumni scholarship to Lyndi Parent who graduated from North Putnam High School this spring and is the daughter of Doug and Staci Parent and plans to attend Purdue University majoring in pharmacy.

Entertainment was provided by the Covered Bridge Harmony chorus.

Carolyn Smith Webber, of Dallas, Texas, introduced her fellow 1967 classmates who were in attendance and gave the response for their class that graduated 50 years ago.

Linda Games Stark of Crawfordsville spoke for the class of 1957 (60 years since graduation) at the banquet.


Lyndi Parent, right, was recently honored as the recipient of the Bainbridge High School (BHS) Alumni Association scholarship. Lyndi, who graduated from North Putnam High School this spring, is the daughter of Doug and Staci Parent and plans to attend Purdue University this fall majoring in pharmacy. Presenting the award is Janet O’Hair, who chairs the BHS Alumni scholarship board. This is the third year the scholarship has been given through an endowment fund at the Putnam County Community Foundation. It’s awarded annually to a deserving North Putnam senior who was a student at Bainbridge Elementary for some, or all, of his or her grade school career. Members of the class of 1947 (70 years since graduation) in attendance were introduced by their classmate Doris Keck O’Hair of Pittsboro.

Vicki Judy Steele from the class of 1967 was recognized as having come the farthest to attend the banquet as she resides in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Joan Bratton Holsapple of Newburgh, Indiana from the class of 1942, was honored as the graduate from the earliest class represented, 75 years since graduation.

(Courtesy Photo) The Games and Rossok families tied with the most siblings present, four, from the same family that attended Bainbridge. The Games family members present were: Leroy Games of Rockville, class of 1961; Linda Games Stark of Crawfordsville, class of 1957; Marilene Games Frederick of Jamestown, class of 1955 and Charles Games of Plainfield, class of 1955. The four Rossok siblings attending included: Bill Rossok, of Waveland, class of 1964; Dean Rossok, of Greencastle, class of 1967; Patricia Rossok Rydell of Carmel, class of 1969; and Jim Rossok, of Waveland, BHS until it closed then North Putnam High School class of 1972.

Two former faculty members at Bainbridge, Bill Henson of Cloverdale and Pat Rady of Terre Haute were introduced. Twenty graduates of North Putnam High School who had attended Bainbridge before it closed in 1969 were recognized.

The Class of 1969 had most classmates present, with 11, for the alumni banquet other than the 1967 honored class. The 1969 classmates attending included: Janet Lents Clampitt, Carol Evens McFarland, Dennis and Janet Houser O’Hair, Carol Robertson Ersland, Carolyn Inman Jackson, Larry Wilson, Patricia Rossok Rydell, Kathy Reynolds Canada, Becky Ader Harris and Don Lambermont.

Just prior to the dinner the Pledge of Allegiance was led by all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces attending the banquet. The invocation was given by Dick Thompson of North Salem from the class of 1952. The banquet was closed with several former cheerleaders leading everyone in the singing of the Bainbridge school song.

Members of the banquet decorating committee in addition to the officers included: past alumni president, Marilyn O’Hair Winters along with Steve Winters; Melvin Keyt, Paula Martin, John Deeter, Susan Garrett Riggen, Brent and Dawn Pruitt and Harold Hiser.

The banquet was catered by Miller’s Catering of Waynetown. The sound system and music was provided by Brent Pruitt.

Officers of the Bainbridge High School Alumni Association this year included: Sharon Branham Deeter of Danville, president; Roger Riggen of Bainbridge, vice president; Joe Martin of Greencastle, treasurer; Brenda Brackney Heacock of rural Greencastle, recording secretary; and Alan Ader of Rockville, corresponding secretary.

As vice president, Roger Riggen automatically progresses to president for 2018 and from the class of 1969, Debra Alcorn Lanie of Zionesville, was elected as the new vice president.

Joe Martin, Brenda Brackney Heacock and Alan Ader were re-elected to their positions.

The 104th Bainbridge High School Alumni banquet is scheduled for June 30, 2018 at the Bainbridge Community Building.
