Jenny Snyder retiring after 34 years at Hoosier Topics

After 34 years at the Hoosier Topics, manager Jenny Snyder has decided to retire. In a fashion.

Jenny will end her tenure at the HT on Friday, July 21. She has been a dedicated employee at the Cloverdale establishment since 1983.

But she will be the first to say she’s not going to pasture. She will likely gain some schooling for a golden years career in real estate or tax preparation.

“I’ll have to keep busy, or my brain will just turn to cobwebs,” she said.

“My brain has been working my whole life.”

Jenny admits she’s not sure how it will feel when the alarm goes off at 5 a.m., and she’s not making her way to the HT office. But she will enjoy catching up on some projects at home. She loves to sew, and do upholstery. And she will help her husband of 53 years, Dick Snyder, with the restoration of vintage cars. The couple have restored many over the years, and there’s a 1956 Ford glass-top currently calling their name.

Jenny says she will miss the people she has worked with over all her years. Particularly the businesses, which she has watched evolve over generations. After all, the Snyders have lived in Cloverdale for 47 years.

“I guess you could say we’ve grown up here,” she said. The couple has also raised a family, including daughter and son-in-law, Tresa and Tilden Keith who reside in Spencer, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Their daughter Treva is deceased. Both girls are graduates of Cloverdale High School.

The Snyders also have a 20-acre property that Jenny says needs a lot of TLC.

“I mow about 10 acres now, but plan to start mowing more of it so I can take long walks along the Mill Creek.”

There will be an Open House Thursday, July 20, until 4 p.m. at the Hoosier Topics office. Stop by for a visit!
