Library blood drive

The Putnam County Public Library will host a community blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross on Monday, Aug. 14 from 2-7 p.m. in the PCPL Kiwanis room. For more information, or to make an appointment to donate, email btimm@pcpl21.org, or sign up online at redcrossblood.org with sponsor code “pcplgreencastle.”

“Helping to build a better world is a programming initiative of the library. We are committed to strengthening our community and to that end meet community needs through blood donations,” said Barbara Timm, Director of Programs. “This blood drive is our way of giving our community an opportunity to help save the life of someone who could be a coworker, loved one or neighbor.”

The American Red Cross is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage and has issued an emergency call for blood and platelet donations. Right now, blood is being distributed to hospitals faster than it is being donated. A critical shortage of Red Cross blood donations may lead to delays in urgent medical care to vulnerable patients. Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.

To help encourage folks to donate blood, all who come to donate at the library’s blood drive on Aug. 14, who have an email address on file with the Red Cross, will receive an email for a $5 Target eGiftCard™ after their attempted donation.

“We urge community members to donate blood and help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs. There’s no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life.”
