Cloverdale Getting Ahead group starts Sept. 5

If you are tired of “getting by” economically and are ready to “get ahead,” we are looking for residents of Cloverdale to participate in the first Cloverdale “Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World” work group.

This group offers TIME to evaluate your current situation and to plan a new future story. It also offers TOOLS that help you make changes to move ahead. You will evaluate your current RESOURCES and find ways to build new ones while building new RELATIONSHIPS that will encourage you in your progress.

The Getting Ahead group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight weeks beginning Sept. 5 at the Cloverdale Methodist Church on Robert Weist Road. The group starts at 5:30 p.m. with a free meal and ends at 8:30 p.m. Free childcare is also available.

Requirements are a desire to change and the ability to attend all 16 sessions. Only 10 people can participate in this work group.

Seven Getting Ahead groups have already been offered in Greencastle. One participant said, “I was a struggling, single mom of four. I broke free from my past, returned to college, and graduated. I can now make a better life for myself and my four children because of Getting Ahead.”

Another said, “The group gave me the support and motivation to reach my goals and get ahead in my life. It also motivated me to give back to my community and help other people in need.”

“I had low expectations for myself when I started the group because I usually have a hard time following through with things. But I am proud that I didn’t miss any nights, I was on time and am now completing what I started,” said another.

“Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World” work groups have been offered in Greencastle since 2013, resulting in 41 graduates who “feel more stable, have developed more social connections, and have improved their housing and/or job situation,” says Coordinator, Lori Miller.

Anyone interested in participating or learning more should contact Lori Miller at gctransformers@gmail.com or call 765-653-6049.
