Health Department releases report

The Putnam County Health Department and Indiana State Department of Health is authorized by law to ensure that foods are safe, wholesome and sanitary; regulated products are honestly and accurately represented; and, these products along with food establishments permitted in Putnam County are in compliance with the county and state laws and regulations. Inspections are done following ordinance, 2005-4-4-2 Retail Food Establishment & Bed and Breakfast Establishment Ordinance, and state rule, 410-IAC 7-24 Retail Food Establishment Sanitation Requirements. These laws and regulations are designed to provide a more comprehensive approach to protecting the customer from contaminated food and food borne illness. Restaurant inspections for Aug. 1-31 are as follows:

Anthony’s Pizzeria- Greencastle, Aug. 29, two critical, two non-critical. Cheese dip probed at 95 degrees, should be at 135 degrees or more; pasta, sauce and cheese not date marked in coolers; chicken not being thawed properly; no test strips.

Bert and Betty’s Kitchen, Aug. 30, no violations.

Bridges Craft Pizza and Wine Bar, Aug. 24, cleared to open, no violations.

Burger King #6431, Aug. 31, no violations.

Casey’s General Store #1948, Aug. 28, two critical, one non-critical. Food in prep fridge has an out of date (expired) tag; spray bottles not properly labeled; mop in kitchen was left in water all night, not hung to dry.

Clover Meadows Golf Course, Aug. 28, two non-critical. Drawer and cabinet in kitchen not clean to sight or touch; no test strips.

Depauw University - Blend, Aug. 25, one critical, one non-critical. Ice machine had residue to sight on inside plastic divider; hand washing sink not being used properly.

Dixie BBQ, Aug. 17, two non-critical. No thermometer on site to check temps; no test strips available.

El Cantarito Mexican Grill, Aug. 28, two critical, three non-critical. Back door not sealed and has visible air gaps; salsa probed at 44 degrees, milk at 53 degrees, should be at 41 degrees or less; gloves weren’t changed in between tasks in the kitchen; no test strips on-site to test sanitizer; outside receptacles did not have a lid to keep out vermin.

Guckenheimer Services @ Ascena, Aug. 22, no violations.

Hatchet House BBQ, Aug. 25, four non-critical. No thermometer in any of the refrigerators; no thermometer for internal food temperatures; no hot water available; run labels didn’t have ingredients listed on them.

KJH Petroleum, Aug. 30, one critical, three noncritical. Baby food on shelf expired; personal care items stored in food prep area; no hair restraints; grease hood has build up on it.

Kwik Mart, Aug. 24, two critical. Toxic chemicals and food were stored together; products in cooler being sold had an expired date.
